What is a blog?
Blog is short for "web log"
Blogs are websites that can be added to easily by anyone. You don't have to have computer programming skills or be a web developer to set up and add to a basic blog. If you can use a programme like Microsoft Word then you will easily be able to add to and edit a blog.
Several companies offer blogging technology - probably the most notable is Blogger which is owned by Google.
To set up a blog via Google you need to visit www.blogger.com and decide on a user name and password. You can then decide on the look you want from a selection of templates.
There are lots of extras you can add to your blog to customise it such as pictures, links to other sites and an archive system for your posts.
Blogs are ideal starter mini websites but they can be useful to businesses in other ways.
We set up blogs for our clients to deliver news and articles to their existing and prospective clients.
In minutes they can post up to date information which their customers can subscribe to receive. We generally give the blog a "skin" that matches their existing website for the sake of continuity and uniformity.
We help clients with the blog set up, skinning and subscription process. Blogs create and reinforce client loyalty as they continually drive subscribers back to your website.
Search engines do not generally return more than 2 pages from one website in search engine results. Although we make our clients blogs "sit" within their website they actually are on a different web address. If you know what you are doing you have a chance to take an extra bite at the cherry.
If you look below you will see an example of how to dominate search engine results. The first 3 "natural listings" are taken by DBS.
